Beginning Woodturning: Green Wood Bowls
$75
Purchase required to enroll
A wonderful introduction to woodturning and using green wood, this is a perfect introductory class - but there's plenty for the experienced turner too!
Bryan will take students through the first steps of using of the wood lathe to produce a beautiful bowl that will naturally change shape into a softened organic form as it dries.
Students will explore turning a bowl using only one tool, the 60 degree Ellsworth, or Irish grind, bowl gouge. The key to a good bowl is a sharp tool and we will spend time learning how to put the perfect edge on our gouges. Following the sharpening tutorial we will take our blank, place it between centers and turn a tenon so the bowl can be held in a chuck. The next step is to shape the outside of the bowl. We remove the bowl from centers and place it in the chuck and hollow it out. Bowls are left unfinished until they are dry. As they dry their shape will change and you are left with a bowl that was designed both by you and by nature.
