Max’s Raku Thing! Spring 2025: an alternative firing mini-course for Members

Fridays, May 16th-June 20th, 10-noon (sessions 1-5) and 10-4 (session 6)

Explore atmospheric effects with our Western-style raku firing! We will cover a brief history of both traditional and non-traditional raku practices, then define our individual and group project goals. With the final firing method in mind, we will consider form, size, quantity, and decoration. Students will work on their pieces independently in addition to in-class making time and we will have “homework” to collect a variety of combustibles to achieve desired effects. The participatory final firing takes 4-6 hours depending on the size and quantity of our work. We will discuss students’ previous experience and availability for the firing. Join us for this “instant gratification” hands-on learning experience!
