Intermediate & Advanced Wheel-Throwing with Sam Deering January 13, 2024

Using the potter’s wheel, students will learn how to throw clay into an ever-wider variety of shapes and sizes. Each class will start with a brief demonstration of how to push things a little further with thrown forms for those who are ready and those who want to try. We will explore trimming and finishing techniques as well as glazing. An emphasis will be on refining one’s technique and identifying the methods that best serve us individually, with an additional focus on developing our own personal aesthetic and learning how to take those ideas and put them into form. (Once a week; 10 sessions)

Experience Level: Intermediate/Advanced.

What’s Included:

• Laguna Stoneware clay (up to 35 lbs), Glaze Materials, both Bisque and Glaze Firings (cone 6).

• The opportunity to glaze-fire twice, including mid-way through the class and the final week.

• Students are encouraged to purchase their own basic Kemper Pottery Tool Kit (https://www.baileypottery.com/c-090-002.html), though primary tools will be available on loan during class sessions.

• Additional clay and kiln space will be available at the regular studio rates.
